Herbal Products
Humanity, health and herbs have been inextricably linked for countless millennia. Even now, in the 21st century, a majority of pharmaceutical drugs are derived from the active ingredients of healing plants. However, extracting and concentrating only one of the many hundreds of useful chemicals in a plant can increase the likelihood of adverse reactions. Our own metabolism has developed in parallel with these same herbs, and when they are taken holistically, with the full spectrum of beneficial phytochemicals, the side effects are rare and normally mild. Herbs work synergistically with the body’s own chemistry – the results are sometimes a little slower, but the benefits are often at a deeper level, producing a more profound and lasting improvement in health and wellbeing.
In our HERBAL ALCHEMY range, most tinctures are combined with concentrated apple juice or honey to produce delicious but effective mixtures. Some combinations aimed specifically at digestive problems are presented in a sugar-free version, consisting of tinctures alone. We also offer a range of high quality herbal tablets and teas.

Herbal Tinctures
HERBAL TINCTURES are considered to be the most potent and fast acting of herbal preparations, and are particularly suited for initial use. The range of HERBAL ALCHEMY complexes are made to traditional formulae with organic and biodynamic tinctures. These are sourced from the world’s best producers, who create them by long maceration of fresh herbs in organic alcohol. The herbs are lovingly tended for weeks or months, rather akin to the maturation of fine wine. During this time the active principles in the herbs are concentrated and blended, resulting in the ultimate healing gift from Nature.

Herbal Tablets
HERBAL TABLETS and capsules are not all the same – many contain only small amounts of ground leaf or root with insufficient of the active ingredients to have any therapeutic effect. All our herbal tablets are made from concentrated ‘standardised’ extracts, ensuring maximum levels of the important phytochemicals. Many have convenient one-a-day dosages which encourage long term compliance. This is vitally important as herbs often do not show their full effect for some months. Herbal medicine works on causes as well as symptoms, so sometimes a little patience is greatly rewarded.
These high potency herbs are particularly suitable when longer term use is recommended, and are ideal when travelling.

Herbal Teas
TEAS or TISANES are the most traditional way to take herbs. These remarkable organically-grown herbs teas should be made in a teapot or covered mug and steeped for 5 minutes, then sweetened with a little honey if required. Their superb quality bears no resemblance to the dusty herbal tea bags that come in boxes - try them! Transfer to an air-tight container once opened.
The herbal teas are a delicious way to replace coffee and tea, and add potential health benefits too!

Detox and Digestion
DETOX and DIGESTION are high on the list of health concerns today. Some of the earliest documented uses of herbs are as ‘digestives’. Originally herbs were eaten fresh or made into teas – still an effective way of harnessing their healing and soothing effects. Modern life often requires more concentrated support of the digestive system, so tinctures and tablets may offer faster relief from the symptoms of digestive problems. Fortunately, Nature provides a wide range of therapeutic herbs which can be combined into gentle yet effective prescriptions. Some herbs have soothing and anti-inflammatory effects; others encourage the production of gastric juices; still more of them provide stimulation for a sluggish system.
More recently, the polluted world we live in has caused many individuals to look at regular ‘detoxing’. Ideally, detox mixtures should address all the purification pathways used by the body: gut, liver, kidneys, blood, skin and lungs. Note that whilst herbs may be helpful when used alone, they will always be more effective when combined with suitable diet and lifestyle adjustments. Stress
STRESS is ever present in today’s world - not just the obvious pressures of work and family life but the less considered stresses of exercise, for instance. Long term stress results in high levels of cortisol and other hormones which are only designed to work for short periods of time. The effects on the body are many and unfortunate. High blood pressure, weight gain, depression, stomach ulcers, skin problems and premature aging are only a few of the many and serious ramifications of prolonged stress response. Eventually the production of cortisol from the adrenals begins to fail and serious health breakdown and ‘burn out’ can result.
Using herbs and carefully designed supplements may help to reduce the effects of stress, maintain energy levels and encourage relaxation and recovery the natural way.
