Probiotic for Young Babies
Recent research has strongly suggested that the immune system needs the stimulation of the correct type of bacteria in the early months of life. The digestive tract is sterile at birth, so the baby will obtain the first innoculation of gut bacteria on the way out through the birth canal. Breast feeding further increases the numbers of beneficial bacteria, and results in a stronger immune system.
Unfortunately, many babies are born by Caesarian section and/or may not be breast fed. As a result they may have an immune system which is compromised during their early years, and possibly forever. It is well documented that these children are more prone to illness, and have higher school absentee rates due to infections. It is less well known that there is a solution to this potential problem...
Biocare have produced a remarkable probiotic supplement for young babies which contains the crucial bacterial strain Bifidobacterium infantis. Just a quarter teaspoonful daily of this powder will provide 4 billion beneficial bacteria, together with some prebiotic FOS, to encourage growth and colonisation within the gut. This supplement might well be considered an essential for Ceasarian-delivered or bottle-fed babies, but may also be a great health investment for any child under 6 months.
Directions: Dissolve 1 gram (approx. a quarter teaspoon) daily in lukewarm water. Add to feed, or drip slowly directly into mouth. |
